I used to use a web browser extension called Aardvark that allowed you to remove parts of a web page before printing. I found this very useful to avoid wasting extra paper and to only print the parts of the page that were really important. That extension doesn't seem to be available any more, so I wrote my own version that works with the Chrome browser.
The functionality it gives you is the ability to remove items from the web page, isolate items (i.e. remove all items except the selected one), convert the page to black and white, remove all images, and remove extra whitespace. All changes can be undone.
If you'd like to try it out, you can get it from the Chrome store.
